Thomas Shea Obituary

Thomas Eugene Shea, “Tom”, was born October 3, 1938 in Buffalo NY and passed away surrounded by his family in Chicago on Monday December 23rd.   He graduated from Catholic University with a Bachelor Degree in Scripture and later received two Master’s degrees in Biblical Studies and Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. Beloved husband of Jean Shea (Dee), neé Shiffer, for 50 years.  Loving father to Tom (Laura), Katie, Patrick (Sarah), and Megan (Christian).  He took enormous pride in his nine grandchildren: Tommy Shea, Brendan Shea, Colin Shea, John Shea, Connor Shea, Matthew Villalobos, Maureen Shea, Miles Villalobos, and Maggie Shea.  Born to the late Thomas Eugene Shea and the late Dolores (McDermott) Shea, brother to the late Maureen Brennan, Molly Edgette, and the late Kevin Shea.  In addition, he was a beloved Brother-in law, Uncle, friend and mentor to many.  Tom was a Columban priest for 13 years, living in Jerusalem, Rome, and traveling throughout Europe during his time as a priest. Tom was an avid golfer, passionate reader, and world traveler who loved good wine and good company.  He kept journals of his travels and wrote letters to his loved ones often.  He always sought to see the good in others and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.     

On December 29th, a visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge, IL, Funeral mass at 10:00 Monday December 30th at Saint Juliana, 7400 W Touhy Ave, Chicago, IL.  Inurnment to follow at Maryhill Cemetery.  847-685-1002  www.cooneyfuneralhome.com.   Mass can be viewed via livestream at stjuliana.org.  go to youtube and hit LIVE.
