Susan P. Cunniff Coughlin – Beloved wife of Al Coughlin, passed on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 surrounded by her husband Al, dear cousin Cathy and close friend Linda. Only child of and preceded in death by her parents Susie and Robert Cunniff. Sue is survived by her husband Al Coughlin and loving cousin Cathy Downing King. Dear sister in law to James and Maureen Coughlin of Omaha and aunt to Patrick Coughlin and niece Jamie Rye (Rob). She was beloved friend to many, especially close in heart to the Montonera family; Michael, Linda, Michelle and goddaughter Bernadette (John White).
Sue worked in the IT field for many years, starting in the 70s. She worked for United Chem-Con as a programmer, continuing on to work for Ernst & Young in IT consulting leaving as a Vice President, then going on as an IT manager for Walgreens at the corporate office. After leaving Walgreens she went on to a part time position at the local Jewel Food store in Park Ridge which she enjoyed.
Sue enjoyed bowling and held a very high average. She was close to receiving her 25 year award for bowling in the National USBC Bowler’s Tournament. She also recently renewed her interest in golf. Always the perfectionist, she took lessons in both sports to improve her game.
Sue enjoyed helping veterans and was a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 26 years. She served as President of Billy Caldwell Unit 806, President of the Ninth District, President of the First Division Cook County Council and served two years as Department of Illinois President. She was also a 26 year member of the 8 and 40 Organization, serving as Chapeau Passe 8 & 40 Northwest Ridge Salon # 573 and Chapeau Passe Departemental d’ Illinois - Salon #21.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy. in Park Ride. Funeral Saturday, payers at 11:00 a.m. going to St. Paul of the Cross Church for Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment Ridgewood Cemetery. No Flowers please. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Illinois P.O. Box 1426 Bloomington, IL 61702. Make donations payable to the American Legion Auxiliary – Department of Illinois, please indicate in the memo for either Past President’s Parley Nurses Scholarship or Illini Girl’s State, two programs which Sue held dear to her heart.
