Robert Steven Stavrakas, lovingly known as Steve, passed away peacefully in Park Ridge, IL at 94. Steve lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and dedication to his family and community.
Steve was born May 25, 1928 to Peter and Mary Stavrakas, who predeceased him. He was a proud veteran who served with honor during the Korean War and as a member of the Illinois National Guard.
Steve received his bachelor's degree at NIU and a master's at UNC in Greeley, CO. A lifelong educator, he devoted his life to helping others. He began his career as a math and science teacher in Northlake, IL. He later became a principal, served on the board of education, and as the director of special education services in Arlington Heights.
Steve was a kind, humble, loving family man who cherished his 69-year marriage to Marianna Stavrakas (nee Cortez), whom he lovingly referred to as his better half. Steve was a loving father to two children, Steve (Cheryl) and Cathy, and a beloved grandfather to Kent, Alexis, Grant and Madi.
Steve loved fishing, reading, and playing cards with friends. He was also involved in many community-service organizations, including the American Legion, Scottish Rite, Medinah Temple and Park Ridge Lodge #998.
The visitation will be Saturday, June 3 at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1300 W. Crescent Avenue from 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow.
