Rafael Manilla Obituary

Rafael Manilla, 79, passed away on January 3rd, 2025.  He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and enjoying his favorite music one last time.

Rafael was born on December 20th,1945 in Mexico City, Mexico.  He was the first of his family to immigrate to Chicago, IL with his wife Guadalupe Manilla, where they raised their 3 children Rafael Manilla JR (51), David Manilla (48) and Catherine Manilla (40).  Rafael was a proud Abuelo (Grandfather) to Stephanie Manilla (31), Sebastian Manilla (26), Serina Manilla (24), Samuel Manilla (22), Alexander Manilla (16), Mason Chambers (2) and Owen Chambers. Rafael was a dedicated husband, father, abuelo, brother and uncle and showed so much love to all of his family. Rafael was known in the Logan Square & Humboldt Park community as a man who would give you the shirt off his back and would help you without any judgement.

Rafael began working as a mechanic for the Modelo beer company while living in Mexico.  He then began his career as a truck driver for Vanee Foods in Chicago and retired in 2012. He had a passion for boxing, soccer and music with his favorites being Spanish music, Rock and Oldies.  He was a very hard worker and never missed a day of work.

Although Rafael is gone, he will live in our hearts forever.
