It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Paul “Wally” Brendel, 74,
beloved husband of Rosemary “Mary” Klok. Wally was the cherished son of the late Joseph and
Alice Brendel, devoted father to Kristen (Ryan) Johns and Ryan (Jessica), and dedicated
grandfather to his grandsons, Ethan and Carter, who brought him immeasurable joy. He was
also the dear brother of the late Scott (Jeannie), a fond uncle to 11 nieces and nephews, and a
great uncle to 8.
Wally’s life was defined by his dedication to family, friends, and his community. Wally graduated
from Lane Tech High School in 1969. He was a proud member of the Local IBEW 134 for 29
years, where his work ethic and commitment were respected by all who knew him. Beyond his
professional life, Wally was a true athlete, known as one of the finest Northside softball players,
playing for legendary teams like the Stones, the Lickers, the Jets, and Jump. His presence on
the field was a source of pride and camaraderie for his teammates.
More than anything, Wally’s family was the center of his world. He could always be found
supporting his children in their various sports and activities, and he found a special kind of joy in
the lives of his grandsons, Ethan and Carter. Their laughter and love will forever live on in his
memory.
Wally’s friendships were just as cherished as his family. He had a remarkable ability to connect
with others, making friends wherever he went, many of whom had known him since childhood.
In retirement, Wally embraced the freedom to spend countless summer days on the golf course,
surrounded by his lifelong friends. His stories, full of nostalgia and humor, brought laughter to
every gathering. No one was ever a stranger to Wally—his warmth and kindness made every
person feel like family.
Wally’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who
had the privilege of knowing him.
