Monica Moore Bazarek passed away peacefully at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on August 3, 2022 at the age of 63 following a courageous battle against cancer surrounded by her loving family.
Monica was born on February, 27th 1959 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to father Sidney Moore, and mother Diana Moore. Her childhood years were spent mostly in the counties of Arlington and Fairfax in Northern Virginia, although she also spent some of her childhood overseas as her father was a naval officer. After graduating from McLean High School (1977), she attended the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on a music scholarship for violin. She then completed her education at the University of Florida and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism (1981).
Upon graduation, she returned to the Washington D.C. area and worked for several companies as an editor. She later moved to Chicago to edit and publish the Daily Digest for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. In 1997, she married her husband in Carmel, California and then devoted her time to raising her three beautiful children as a stay-at-home mom. She most recently worked at Northwestern University in the Office for Research.
Monica loved to spend time with her family, cook, bake, play board games, travel, read books, garden, listen to music, exercise, and watch her favorite television shows. Monica had a generous heart and was dedicated to helping others. She served as a 3rd grade religious education teacher at Saint Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. She was also elected as Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Vice President and a parent representative for the Local School Council (LSC) at her children’s school, Edgebrook Elementary.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 25 years, William; her children, Emma, Hayley, and Benjamin; her mother, Diana; her siblings, Roderick (Colleen), Shawneen Petersen, Pamela (George) Hamel, Brett; and numerous other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney. Monica was the light of our lives and her love still shines bright. Monica left this world, but not our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home (Park Ridge) located at 625 Busse Hwy. Mass will be held on Friday, August 12, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Church (Chicago) located at 6955 N. Hiawatha Ave. Monica will be laid to rest at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery after Mass.
