Michael French Obituary

Michael T. French, age 67, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025. He was born on October 25, 1957, the fourth child of Mary Agnes (McGowan) French and Robert French. Michael was the devoted husband of 30 years to Claire (Doucette) French and the proud father of Mary Pat French, who was the light of his life. He was the beloved brother of Ann Remien (late Harry Remien), Trisha Whitehead (Steve), and the late Mark French. He was a loving brother-in-law to Aimee Stotz (Rod), Bill Doucette (Pam), and the late Thomas Doucette. He was a fun and caring uncle to Elizabeth Haas (Bryan), the late Mary Remien, Steven Whitehead, Katie Schumacher (Greg), David Doucette (Jenna), Bill Stotz, and Nick Stotz; and a proud great-uncle to Charles Haas, George Haas, Elsa Doucette, and Taylor Doucette. Michael was a loving cousin to the McGowan, Bishop, Brinegar, and Cowan families.  A lifelong resident of Edison Park, Michael’s roots ran deep, and his friendships—many of which began in childhood—were cherished throughout his life. Michael attended St. Juliana School, followed by Notre Dame High School, where he played football and continued making lasting relationships. He studied at Triton College before working at Coca-Cola in the late 1970s. He eventually became a Local 150 Operating Engineer for the City of Chicago, where he collected countless stories that he loved to share. Michael was known for his unforgettable smile and his ability to make everyone around him laugh. He was a man of faith that strengthened him, unwavering even during the hardest moments of his illness. He faced every challenge with courage, humor, and love. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and was happiest spending time with family and friends.  Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, laughter, and strength. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him.  Memorial visitation on Saturday April 12, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Juliana Church.  Memorial Mass at 12 noon.  Interment private.  Arrangements by Cooney Funeral Home
