Mary Ann (Szymczak) Mangano passed away on September 26, 2025,
following an unexpected illness and rapid decline in health at the age of 85,
with her family at her side.
She was born on August 13, 1940, to Joseph and Sophie (Pluta)
Szymczak in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Holy Name Cathedral
High School, where she met her adoring husband, Al. Mary Ann attended
Lewis University with the goal of becoming a teacher. She first taught in
Catholic elementary schools and later joined the Chicago Public Schools,
where she dedicated 30 years to teaching kindergarten at D.R. Cameron,
retiring in 2000.
Mary Ann was a devoted wife of 61 years to Alfonse Mangano. Mary Ann
and Al raised 3 daughters, leaving a legacy of love and family devotion.
Mary Ann was the cherished mother of Mary Stefely, Patricia Mangano,
and Nicolina Mangano; admired mother-in-law of Jim Stefely; nurturing
grandmother of Mark Stefely, and treasured sister of the late Josephine
Culek. A beloved aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor. Mary Ann radiated
love and joy, known for her welcoming heart, bright smile, and vibrant spirit.
She honored her family and friends, celebrating the joyful moments and
standing by them with love during difficult times.
Family and friends will be received at the Cooney Funeral Home 625 Busse Hwy. Park Ridge
Wednesday October 1, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass Thursday 10:00 a.m. at St. Juliana Church 7201 N. Oketo Chicago
