Mary M. (O'Malley) Togher

Mary Margaret Togher (nee O’Malley) passed into eternal life on April 16, 2023. Beloved wife of the late James Togher. Loving daughter of the late Mary and Patrick O’Malley.  Mary is survived by her devoted only child,  Roselene Folan (Edward Gilger), and her adoring grandchildren, Gabrielle, Mary, & James Folan, and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Mary was born in a small town called Louisburg, which is part of the wild Atlantic way in County Mayo, Ireland. She was the 4th child in a family of 12. Mary loved each of her siblings fiercely. She was proud of being the eldest daughter and took pride in helping her mom with her siblings.  She is survived by her siblings John, Frank (Kathleen), Thomas (Mary), Bill (Lill), Anthony (Maureen), Ann Mikicic (Dominic), and Christy (Maureen), and her sister in-law Ann Molloy (Patrick). She is preceded in death by her siblings Joe (Jean), Noel (Mary), James Martin(Sally), and Nora Kate.

Mary’s strong spirit and love for the sea couldn’t keep her in Ireland, as America called. Mary left Ireland and arrived in New York in the summer of 1953 and quickly headed for Worcester, Massachusetts. She moved to Chicago in 1959, where she quickly met the love of her life Jim Togher. Mary and Jim built a life together, had a child, and enjoyed lots of dances with dear family & friends.

Mary was a loving woman whose door was always open for anyone stopping in for Irish soda bread, a cuppa tea, and of course the craic. She was devout in her faith, to her family, and to friends. Mary was a caretaker for the elderly for many years before working in the Chicago Public School in the lunchroom for 25 years. She loved serving the children their meals and they loved her.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday 4/22 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m at Queen of Angels Church located at 2330 W Sunnyside Ave, Chicago, IL, 60625.
