Joseph Stumpf, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning, October 28th, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents Barthold and Kunigunda and four brothers, Andrew, Paul, Augie, and Andrew.
Joseph is survived by the love of his life, Eveline, and cherished children, Tom (Hua), Mary Jo (Bob), and John (Kirsten).
Joseph was affectionately known as “Opa” to his seven grandsons Bobby, Ryan, Andrew, Ethan, Braydon, Joseph, and Matthew, and his four great grandchildren Victoria, Vincent, Bobby, and Eveline.
Opa grew up in a small, old Bavarian city before moving to Chicago in 1952 with his brother Augie. He was soon drafted to the army and was sent to Iceland. On a furlough in 1954, he returned home to Germany to see his father, who just returned from Russia as a prisoner of war, and he met his future wife, Eveline. Eveline moved to the United States in May of 1956 and they got married shortly after in Elmhurst.
He started his career working at Commonwealth Edison as a lineman. He then put himself through school to move to the engineer division for 35 years.
Joseph and Eveline started a family in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago before settling in Park Ridge in 1971 and raising three kids.
Visitation Thursday November 2 5:00pm- 8:00pm at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy. in Park Ridge. Friday November 3 9:30am prayers going to Mary Seat of Wisdom for 10:00am Funeral Mass.
