Jack Fister, age 83, Chicago, IL passed away October 7, 2023.
Jack was diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis in 2015. In an effort to help future patients diagnosed with this condition, he participated in a number of studies that reviewed possible treatment options. Participating in these studies gave both him and Fran the opportunity to meet many remarkable and dedicated people - patients and medical staff alike. As the disease progressed and the challenges that came with the condition mounted, he met each such challenge with fortitude and tenacity until his death.
Though amyloidosis impacted much of his life in his later years, he never allowed it to define – or limit - who he was. He was a loving husband, inspirational father and caring grandfather. His open smile encouraged many and lasting friendships. His apple pie and oatmeal cookies were both legion AND legend. Though his musical career with the St. Jams was short-lived the memories of his drum performance is long remembered. An avid sports fan in general, Jack became a quick study and an even deeper fan of whatever sport his grandchildren chose to participate in.
Jack is survived by his wife Frances (nee Droese), son Jeff and his wife Julie Fister (nee Simonelli), daughter Kristen Nicole Fister-O’Donnell and her husband Phillip and grandchildren Alexandra, Emma and Mitchell. Jack and Fran’s son Todd, predeceased Jack by several years.
Services will be held at St. James Lutheran Church (located at 2101 N. Fremont St. in Chicago, IL) on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a service beginning at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation (amyloidosis.org) or St. James Lutheran Church. Both organizations serve critical missions in their own way and have been instrumental in supporting the Fister family and countless others. Their support is deeply appreciated.
Jack will be dearly missed and always remembered. Our family is grateful to know that Jack is finally at peace.
