Helen V. Finley, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the age of 102. Born in 1923, in Chicago, Helen was a member of the Greatest Generation. Her life reflected the resilience, sacrifice, and devotion to family that defined that era. Helen married John J. Finley on September 25, 1948, and together they raised nine children: Helen, John, Kevin (Gretchen), Dan, Aileen (Joe), Kathleen, Mary Ellen, Brian, and Margaret. An Edison Park resident since 1957, Helen was a longtime and active member of St. Juliana, where she also volunteered at the parish school for many years. She loved spending time with her children and at age 40 learned to drive so she could take them on family adventures.
She was the last surviving member of the remarkable Monckton family of 907 Wrightwood Avenue in Chicago. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her children Helen, John, and Brian. She is survived by her remaining children, 18 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Saturday at St. Juliana Church from 10:30 a.m. up to the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment All Saints.
