Elizabeth A. (Mannix) Ahern

Elizabeth (“Betty”) Ahern (nee Mannix), age 92, passed away on March 6, 2021 in the care of her cherished community at Nazarethville and with the comfort of family in her final days. Betty was born in County Kerry Ireland and preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael in 1992. Loving Mother to Michael (Patricia) Ahern, the late Ed (Sheila) Ahern, Ellen (Michael) O’Brien and the late Patrick (late Liz) Ahern. Proud grandmother to (9) Colleen, Katie, Becky, Maura, Michael, Kevin, Danny, Maggie and Megan. Great grandmother to 8 who will soon be joined by number 9. Preceded in death by brothers: John, Jack, Jimmy, Tom, Eddie and sisters Peggy and Kathleen. Loved by many nieces and nephews. She served with pride as a crossing guard for decades – a protective and joyful presence in the lives of many children who now remember her fondly. “Never was it known that anyone who fled to Thy protection, implored Thy help and sought Thy intercession, was left unaided.”  Please leave a message for the family.  Your stories will bring comfort to the family as we are unable to gather together to hear them, in the ways we would have pre-pandemic. Due to the current restrictions, masks are required and social distancing rules will be observed at the visitation which will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home 625 Busse Hwy in Park Ridge. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, 10AM at Our Lady of Victory Church at 5212 W. Agatite Chicago, Illinois 60630. Social distancing and mask protocols will be in place and anyone planning to attend is asked to register with Cooney Funeral Home. Technology allowing, the Mass will be livestreamed and a recording available on the parish website http://www.ourladyofvictory.info. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Lady of Victory.
