Dennis R. Schmidt

Dennis R. Schmidt, 85, long-time resident of Park Ridge, IL, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2021. Denny was preceded in death by his loving wife Irene, parents LeRoy and Eunice, brother Terry, and grandson Grant Lipshaw. He is survived by his children Susan (and Edward) Lemar, Renee (and Peter) Kuprianczyk, Linda Lipshaw, Scott Schmidt, his stepchildren Annette (and Ted) Strucinski, Joseph Krupa, Gary (and Kim) Krupa, grandchildren Sara Strucinski, Dan (and Christin) Bikulcius, Lauren Drake, Craig (and Julie) Kuprianczyk, Brian (and Amanda) Bikulcius, Erin Strucinski (and James DelSasso), Caryn Kuprianczyk, and his many great-grandchildren.

Denny graduated from Maine East High School and was a proud alumnus and donor of Eastern Illinois University. Graduating with a degree in business, he pursued a sales career in publishing before joining the store fixture manufacturing industry where he spent many years. His entrepreneurial spirit ultimately led to his forming an export consulting business with clients in Japan, Malaysia, and Mexico.

From an early age Denny loved geography and trivia. He had a passion for travel and fulfilled a bucket list of road trips throughout North America. A supporter of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, he particularly enjoyed experiencing America’s historic hotels. When traveling internationally he and Irene immersed themselves in the local culture; especially the people, architecture, and cuisine. Irene often joined Denny on his business travels to Mexico City and Singapore where they forged many deep and enduring friendships. He and Irene loved to dance and they never missed an opportunity to take to the dance floor. Denny was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. Bravo Dad to a life well-lived. Your zeal for life has been an inspiration to us all.

Due to current gathering and travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, a Remembrance Celebration will be held at a later date. Denny was laid to rest alongside Irene at the Town of Maine Cemetery in Park Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army are appreciated. Arrangements by Cooney Funeral Home.
