Bernadette Hanik

Bernadette (Bernie) Hanik, age 64, passed away peacefully late Sunday June 30 th , with
family by her side, after a 13 month valiant effort against the cruel world of a
glioblastoma. Throughout the journey, Bernie never lost her sense of humor, her
classic one-liners, and infectious smile.
Bernie loved her position as a Travel and Expense Specialist for 35 yrs at FCB,
Chicago.
Her work family truly amazed us with their outpouring of support and love throughout
this experience. They always made sure Bernie knew they were there and would do
whatever they could for her and us. When she wasn’t at work, she was enjoying her
hobbies that included master blanket crochet maker and baking all the holiday cookies
to share.
Berne was preceded in death by her dad at a young age, Anthony Hanik, then her
mom Rose Marie Hanik-Kazmierczak and her bonus dad, Edward Kazmierczak, and
her two brothers, Raymond Hanik and Wayne Hanik.
She will be truly missed by those she left behind siblings: Tony (Veronica) Hanik, Tom
(Mary) Hanik, Mary Beth (Frank) Borkowski, Virginia (Rick) Godek, and Rosanne
(Fred) Bacaling. Her many nieces and nephews who adored their favorite, fashionista
Auntie Bernie: Andrew and Josef (Tiffani) Hanik, Colby (Caroline) Hanik, Jessica
(Andy) Hyduk, Julie Hanik, Alan (Tasha) Godek, Alyssa Godek, Matt (Dana) Bacaling,
Melanie Bacaling, Angela Bacaling and Alison (Brian) Bacaling-Chandler. Great
nieces/nephews: Victor, TJ, Abby, Luke, Vivy, Leo, Hazel and Raphael. And Honorary
niece Keelah (Greg) Moore.
The family would also like to thank all the many friends who visited Bernie, sent cards,
care packages, flowers. Bernie always teared up and was truly humbled by the
outpouring of love.
Per Bernie’s request, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13 th 11am -2pm
with service at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your
choice in Bernie’s memory.
