AnnMarie Keenan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of AnnMarie McDonnell Keenan, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. AnnMarie was born in Chicago on May 11, 1953 to the late Thomas McDonnell and the late Margaret Cawley McDonnell. A lifelong learner, AnnMarie spent her early years at Our Lady of Mercy grammar school and Immaculata high school. She went on to graduate with a nursing degree from DePaul University, a masters from Rush University and a PhD from Rush University. AnnMarie dedicated her life to others and spent 44 years working as an oncology nurse and professor at Rush University Medical Center. AnnMarie’s PhD was a huge accomplishment and something she pursued for years. Her dissertation topic, “Music as an Intervention to Relieve Cancer Related Pain”, was inspired by her late sister, Linda Bare.

AnnMarie’s greatest joy in life was being a mother to Lauren and Michael and grandmother to Andrew. AnnMarie loved her family more than anything. A favorite saying of hers was “God, family, Education, sports- in that order”. She was blessed to have a close knit family. The second oldest of six children, AnnMarie was a natural leader and loved being a part of a large Irish family. AnnMarie and her siblings were the best of friends and shared countless special moments over the years.

AnnMarie was blessed to have maintained very close friendships with many dear friends over the years. Her passing will leave a void in the lives of many. She is survived by her children Lauren Dubuque (Paul), Michael, grandson Andrew Dubuque, siblings Margaret Mary Bracey (the late Nathaniel), Bernadette McDonnell, Thomas McDonnell (Coleen and the late JoAnne ), Theresa Landgren (Robert), and the late Linda Bare (Jim), as well as 16 nieces and nephews, 19 great-nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
