Andrew J Spores passed away peacefully on November 17th at the age of 96. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Third Infantry in the Italian Campaign. He saw action in significant battles including Monte Casino and Anzio, and received a Purple Heart for wounds received while on the front lines. After the war, he received a BS in Engineering from Bradley University and married his late wife of 55 years, Catherine (née Mathos), in 1950. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents: John and Fannie (Melissinos), his uncle Mike Melissinos, his uncle and aunt Gust and Mary Stathis, and his son-in-law John Sparks (Francine). He is survived by his daughter Francine Sparks Keyes (Brett), and son John Spores (Billie); his grandchildren: Kathryn Sparks, Michael Sparks (Maureen), Andrew Sparks, Daniel Sparks (Cara), Andrew Spores, and Demetra Spores; and his great-grandchildren: Maggie Sparks (Michael and Maureen), and Jayden Sparks (Daniel and Cara). Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church located at 133 S. Roselle Rd. in Palatine. Interment Memory Gardens Cemetery.
