William N. Larson, aged 89, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marcia Larson; daughters Chris Larson and Laura (Scott) Morrison; grandchildren Maya, Hope, Jackie, and Robert; sister Carol Loew-Kalbas; and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Chicago to Lavina (nee Massie) Larson and William A. Larson, Bill's journey was marked by his passion and dedication to the field of architecture. He graduated from Taft High School and furthered his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he became a member of the architectural fraternity Alpha Rho Chi. Interrupting his college years to serve in the Army, he returned to UIUC to complete his degree in Architecture. It was at this time he met the love of his life, the lovely young coed Marcia Hagman, and they married soon after graduation.

During his career, Bill joined Holabird & Root in 1961 and later moved to Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, where served as Associate Partner and Project Manager working on foreign and domestic projects until his retirement at age 72. His notable contributions included the General Motors Renaissance Center in Detroit, MI, the US Geological Survey Headquarters in Reston, VA, Spiegel's Corporate Headquarters in Downers Grove, IL, The Dallas Convention Center, and the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

In 1988, he received the distinguished honor of being inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, recognizing his significant contributions to the architectural profession. In addition to his professional achievements, he volunteered his time to public service projects. For over 18 years, he sat on the Planning and Zoning Commission for the city of Park Ridge, contributing to the successful preservation and redevelopment of the downtown area. He served on a special task force for the City of Chicago with the Department of Public Works to review objectives for major projects, showcasing his commitment to community development.

He also volunteered his services to oversee major renovations at the Park Ridge Country Club. His involvement on the board of directors at the University Club of Chicago contributed to the enhancement of the outdoor balcony, providing a picturesque spot to savor a meal with a breathtaking view of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan.

A jack-of-all-trades and a true DIY master, he and his wife Marcia spent countless weekends renovating their home and landscape. For many years running, a new project was begun in the spring and finished in time to host family celebrations for the holidays. The final renovation, completed over 25 years ago, allowed them to enjoy their last years together in the beautiful home they had created.
