William Richard "Dick" Schroeder of Chicago, Illinois died February 17, 2017 at the age of 89. Dick was born in Chicago on February 16, 1928 to Bill and Emma Schroeder and attended Lake View High School. After serving in the US Army, he met and married Arlene Barnick in Chicago on April 28, 1951. A lifelong Cub fan, they raised their four children to be avid fans as well. He loved poker and Las Vegas. Dick followed his father into the transportation industry, rising from salesman to Vice President of several large trucking companies.
After Dick retired, he spent his last years volunteering his time at three non-profits he felt strongly about supporting: the Friends of Lake View board, raising money for his alma mater; the Nature Center of North Park Village and the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club of Chicago.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Arlene, four children: Steven (Danute), William Richard II (Bill), Susan and Linda (Bryan) Kohles, nine grandchildren: Dawn (Joel Schoening) Borgardt, Christopher, Coral (Martin) Borgardt Lemus, Lauren, Keenan (Heather) Borgardt, Kathryn (Phil) Schmitz, Gregory, Eric and Becky Kohles and one great-grandchild, Jocelyn Borgardt. He was preceded in death by his grandson Will Richard Schroeder III (Gomez) in 2012. He was completely devoted to his wife and his greatest joy was being surrounded by his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 11, 2017 at Cooney Funeral Home, 3918 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dick's name to the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club of Chicago. For info (773) 588-5850
