William (Bill) James Birt, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2023. He was born in Ballynease, Co. Derry, Ireland. Beloved husband of late Julia (nee Kelly) Birt from Lettermullen, Co. Galway, Ireland; loving father to Mary Birt, Margaret (nee Birt) Lalich, and the late Thomas; dear grandfather to Ian, Megan, Emily, and Aidan (Shannon) and loving great-grandpa to Finn, Raphael, and Cana; he was the loving brother of the late Arthur (Bea), the late Margaret (John) Kelleher, Henry (Mary), the late Michael (Dolores), the late John (Carole), Brigid (Michael) Hurl, Celine (Hugh) Griffin, and Thomas (Sarah); beloved brother-in-law of John (Kathleen), the late Sr. Finian, Sr. Catherine, Martin (Barbara), Coleman (Mary), Celia (Myles), Rita Barrett, Agnes (Edward) Connolly, Nora Gannon, Thomas, Agnes and Michael; and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a very blessed man with all his family, relatives, friends and wonderful neighbors! Bill was raised in Ireland and worked tirelessly as a farmer before immigrating to the United States of America. He was dedicated to his job as an equipment operator with Peoples Gas Company and proud of his years of service in the United States Army. He always had a way to make people laugh. He was a loving husband, devoted father and the best grandpa and great-grandpa! He always believed in putting his family first! His smile will live on forever in everyone's hearts!

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Juliana Church located at 7201 N. Oketo Ave. in Chicago.
