Timothy Edward Leahy, 91, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022, at his home in Park Ridge. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Betty, daughter Kathleen (John) Menzer, son Timothy (Bridget), son Daniel (Kim), son Brian (Lori), son Scott (Donna) and daughter Beth (Joseph) Lemersal; his grandchildren: Christine (Matthew), Amy (Matthew), Brian, Colin, Sean, Daniel, Anelise, Kaitlyn, Grace, Michelle, Patrick, Connor, Gavin, Timothy, Zachary, Mackenzie, Megan (James), Charlie, and William; and great-grandchildren: Henry, Anthony, Owen, Finn and Cooper. With his passing he is reunited with his parents John and Bridget, brother John (Myrtle), brother Maurice (Marion) and sister Alice (Michael) O'Connor. He was born May 12, 1931, in Chicago. After moving to Ireland with family as a child, he returned to Chicago and graduated from St. Gregory High School in 1949. He married Betty on October 4, 1952, at Our Lady of Lourdes, and they soon started a family. After running the meat concessionaire at Dick's Food Mart in the 1960s, he purchased Probst Meat Market in Lakeview in 1966. He then opened Leahy's Market ("Our Wurst is the Best") on Belmont and Central in 1970. Each of his children worked with him at the butcher shop over the years, and his warm personality and generosity made Leahy's Market a fixture in the neighborhood. His retirement in 1999 drew coverage from the Chicago Tribune. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and was an active parishioner at St. Paul of the Cross Church. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially during the annual Christmas Eve party he and Betty hosted for decades. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, work ethic and devotion to his family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy. in Park Ridge. Funeral Wednesday, prayers at 9:30 a.m. going to St. Paul of the Cross Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Misericordia are appreciated.
