Samuel James "Jimmy" Doran (90) passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025 - a date made especially meaningful as it marked the seventh anniversary of the passing of his beloved wife Rose. Originally from Glasdrumman, Annalong, County Down, Jimmy left Ireland and went to England at the age of 19. Soon after arriving he met Rose McGinnity. They married and started a family, in 6 years were blessed with four daughters. Jimmy supported his family by working in the coal mines, it was hard dangerous work but he did so without complaint to take care of his family. He had always dreamt of immigrating to America…and his wish came true. After many conversations he was finally able to convince Rose to take a leap of faith. They sold their house and all their belongings, packed up the girls, and immigrated to America, settling in Niles where they raised their family and remained for over 50 years. Jimmy was the beloved husband of Rose for 59 years. He was the devoted father of Linda Horan (deceased), Colette Smigielski, Clare Hiller, and Sheena (Pete) Concannon. Amazing Grandpa of Neal Horan, James Lane, Brendan and Seamus Concannon, Amanda and Mark Hiller, Danielle, Alex, and Jason Smigielski. Jimmy was the second of seven children born to Sam and Eileen Doran. He was predeceased by his siblings Brigid, John Joe, and Paddy, and is survived by Josephine, Brian and Christopher. Brother-in law to many and fond uncle to many, many nieces and nephews in Ireland and Australia and a friend to anyone he met. He was notoriously known as a "pure gentleman" a kind hearted, easy going man; happy and pleasant all the time. Jimmy always enjoyed a laugh, a good game of darts and of course a pint. He was indeed a legend.

A visitation will be held Thursday May 22, 2025 9:30am- 11:30am at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy. in Park Ridge. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00pm at St. John Brebeuf. Interment Maryhill Cemetery.
