Robert (Bob) Eugene Jurewicz, age 94, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 27, 2026. Bob was born June 21, 1931, in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Marie (nee Miezio) Jurewicz before the family moved to Chicago. He grew up in the Douglass Park neighborhood with his parents and his late brothers Joseph (late Carol) and Stanley (late Geraldine “Geri”). Bob was proud of his Polish Heritage and would often share phrases in Polish – especially from Poland’s National Anthem “Poland is not yet lost.” Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was always grateful for the G.I. Bill which helped him obtain his electrical engineering degree from the University of Illinois.
It was his job at Automatic Electric Company (later GTE) that changed his life – meeting his beloved wife, Mary Clancy (Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland). Maybe she was impressed by the Corvette and Chris-Craft – or perhaps it was deep faith and love…. but whatever the reason, Bob and Mary enjoyed 65 years of marriage and raised six children in the St. Juliana Parish of the Edison Park neighborhood. Bob was a loving and supportive father of Robert (late Lynda), Joseph (late Cindy), Mary (Marty McAndrew), Patrick (Elizabeth), John (Ellen), and Michael (Tami). He was affectionately known as Grandpa or Poppa by his 13 grandchildren Jenna, Bobby, Kayla, Joshua, Alex, Julia, Deaglan, Aisling, Kate, Will, Jack, Charlie, and Adam and great-granddaughter Margaret who will greatly miss his generous scoops of ice cream.
Bob loved photography, boating, travel, and golf. He used those photo skills to “work” at the local newspaper, The Edison Park Review, where he would be seen throughout the neighborhood capturing memories of local events, news, and youth sports. Getting the family photo “just right” could turn into an all-day event with Bob constantly saying “Hold it…. hold it….” His golf game “improved” after relocating to Wisconsin Rapids, WI for a job with Best Power as he convinced the family to trek up for the Assumption High School golf outing every year. The invasion of Jurewicz and Clancy families and friends was an annual highlight for many years.
Throughout his career, Bob held numerous offices with INTELEC - International Communications Energy Conference – an international forum for information and communications technologies. His leadership roles with INTELEC allowed Mary and Bob to see the world from Japan to Australia and Europe to Latin America always bringing Chicago to the world and the world back to Chicago.
Bob was truly a well-rounded gentleman and a great conversationist no matter the topic. He was immensely proud of his family and heritage and loved celebrating with numerous nieces and nephews on both sides – and their extended families. His legacy will live on through them.
Please keep Bob, the family, and the wonderful staff at Emerald Place (Glenview) in your prayers. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8th 5:00 – 8:00pm at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 W. Busse Highway, Park Ridge. Mass of the Resurrection, Saturday May 9th 1:00pm at St. Juliana Church, 7201 N. Oketo, Chicago. Interment at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Misericordia Foundation, 6300 North Ridge, Chicago, IL 60660.
