Robert "Bob" Gutzmer of Allen, TX, formerly of Des Plaines, died September 15, 2013.  Bob passed peacefully at home with his wife, Doris, and loving children at his side.  Born April 28, 1934,  in Chicago, IL, to the late William and Elizabeth Gutzmer, he is survived by his wife, Doris, of forty years, and his five children, David (Janet) Gutzmer, Karen Lorenz, Daniel Gutzmer, Julie (Thad) Dail, and Donald Gutzmer, along with 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.   He was a brother to William (Carol) Gutzmer, Jean (late William) Youngquist, and James (Karen) Gutzmer, and preceded in death by Ruth Hinz and Elaine (late Gene) Davis. Bob was a life-long employee of the local phone company in Des Plaines where many of his co-workers knew him as "Poopsie."  Bob was also an active member in the Des Plaines Optimist Club.  Bob had a fun-loving personality and enjoyed a good laugh. Bob's favorite music was polka. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada with friends and family.  His favorite pastime was feeding and enjoying the birds in his own backyard.   Following retirement, he and Doris enjoyed traveling the U. S. in their fifth-wheel. Visitation is Friday, September 20th, from 4:00 till 9:00 p.m.  at the Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Highway, Park Ridge, IL, west of Greenwood Ave.  Visitation Saturday, September 21st, at  9:00 a.m., with funeral beginning 10:00 a.m., at Cooney Funeral Home.  Internment will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines. Bob was larger than life and a true friend to everyone. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation or your favorite charity.
