Richard Vincent Chlopowicz 90, died Saturday January 23 at the Manteno Veteran's Home in Manteno, IL following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene (nee Mulhern). They were happily married for 62 years. He is survived by his children Christine Yount, Colleen O'Hern, Tim (Sue) Chlopowicz & John (Liz) Chlopowicz, dear sister Eleanor Lekan & many fond nieces and nephews. Proud Grandpa of Jackie, Emilie, Eric, Bridget, Jessica, Christopher & Ryan. Great-grandpa to Caid & Eli. Born in Chicago New Year's Day the son of Frank and Bernice (nee Krzyz) Chlopowicz, Richard was a lifelong Northsider. After graduating from Crane Tech HS, he made Sargent in the Army and fought in the "Battle of the Bulge". He was a proud veteran, American & one of the Greatest Generation to be sure. After WWII he met his wife, Irene they were married at St Andrew and raised their family there. He was a very talented Tool and Die Maker. Known for his great sense of humor. He loved fishing & spending time with his family. Mr. C was a huge dog & animal lover. He fed his birds, squirrels & rabbits in his yard every day. He loved singing in the St Andrew & OLV choir. The wake will be on Wednesday from 3 to 8 at Cooney Funeral Home, 3918 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago 60618. The funeral Thursday morning at 10 am at St Andrew Church 3546 N. Paulina St. Chicago. Graveside service follows at All Saints Cemetery 700 N. River Road Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PAWS or Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.
