Patricia "Pat" Farrell Smith was born in Chicago, Illinois on 6 July 1932 to John Farrell and Anita Farrell nee Kelley. Two well-loved brothers, William Farrell and Jack Farrell passed prior to her death, while her sisters-in-law Mary (John) Barrett and Eileen Smith survive her passing.
Pat was the loving and caring wife of Peter "Pete" Smith who passed away on 16 December 2021. They married on 4 October 1952; together they raised six children. Mother of: Timothy P. Smith, Stephen J. (Loretta) Smith, Lawrence W. (Nora) Smith, Maureen Smith Bake, Peter F. (Carolyn) Smith, and Julie Smith Penn. Grandmother of: Megan Smith, Justin Smith, Stephanie Smith, Anita (Chelsea) Smith, Molly Smith (Nick Griggs), Patty Smith (Ryan Rodriguez), Peter W. Smith, Cailin Bake (Duncan Lawson), Ricky Bake (Jessica Diffendal), Bailey Smith (fiancee - Kaitlyn Deady), Carly Smith, Kathleen Smith, Mia Penn and Tessa Penn. Great Grandmother of: Ronan, Harper, Oakley, Crew, Quentin, Bonnie, Camille, Ciaran and Mary.
We are all grateful for the caregivers who provided support during her last few years with us. This allowed her to die peacefully at home on 23 July 2023.
A National Honor Society student at Immaculata High School she thereafter attended Mundelein College. Her collegiate studies concluded upon her marriage to Pete. For many years she worked at Diplomat Travel Agency prior to retiring. Over many decades she served in various volunteer capacities for St. Tarcissus Parish and School as well as St. Patrick High School. She enjoyed getting together with fellow alums from Immaculata and was always ready to play bridge with her many friends! All who knew Pat were positively affected by her presence in their lives. She will be deeply missed.
The Funeral Mass will be at Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Church on Monday, 31 July 2023 at 10:30AM, visitation in the Church prior commencing at 9:30AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois 60607.
