Michael John
Lally
d. May 16, 2026
Michael J. Lally, age 64, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at his home in Chicago.
Michael was born in 1962 to Mike and Marie Lally and was the seventh born of their eight children. He attended OLV Grade School and graduated from Gordon Technical High School in 1980. During his wonder years and into his teen years, he formed many friendships that lasted throughout his lifetime.
He spent most of his working years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired after more than 18 years of proudly serving the communities of Glenview, Palatine, and Chicago, delivering mail.
Michael was a devoted White Sox fan and lover of all things sports, whether it be professional, college level, high school, grade school, or park district team sports. He appreciated the talent of various musical artists, attended many concerts, and was a regular listener of WXRT radio. He was intelligent and had an analytical mind that qualified him for Mensa. He loved to read books and watch movies. He enjoyed playing word and number games like Jumble, Wordle, and Sudoku. As a child, he was an early reader and began reading the daily newspaper from front to back. He continued to buy and read the newspaper till his final days. He loved to travel, whether it be to visit friends in New York and Texas, or to vacation with family in Wisconsin.
More than anything else, Michael loved to spend time with family and friends. He looked forward to family gatherings for quarterly breakfasts, birthdays, holidays, graduations, game nights and picnics, as well as spending time with his buddies at the neighborhood haunts discussing sports and current events.
Michael is survived by his cherished children, Frank (Meg) and Maura; his dear siblings, Mary Pat (Mike), Kathy, Helen, Peggy (Brian), John (Mary Ellen), and his dear sister- in-law, Sue; his godson, Tim; and his many nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving parents and his dear brother, Dan.
Michael was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
