Obituary

Mary Jane Leyden (nee Johnson), 78, born in Boone, Iowa to Melvin and Anna Marie (nee Martin) Johnson, beloved sister of Ruthanne (Robert) Mills and twin sister Margaret Leyden.  Heaven gained an Angel on November 15, 2023 as she was surrounded by so much family love. Mary lived her life in Chicago as the ever-loving mother of Jeanine Leyden, Patrick J. (Tricia) Leyden, John (Jennifer) Leyden, and Kate (David) Merrill. Amazing G-ma to 15 perfect grandchildren – Keelee, Jimmy, Mikayla, Kelcie, Jack, Connor, Ryan, Caitlin, Alaina, Madeline, Elizabeth, Kalina, Lauren, Finn, and Sam. Favorite Aunt Mary to so many nieces and nephews and Great Aunt Mary to even more. Mary was a well-known superfan at her grandkids sports games and often attended multiple games a day. She loved playing cards, board games, bags and Bingo especially if her grandkids joined her. She was like a second mom to others and made a huge impact on so many.  Memories of Mary and her generosity, selflessness, concern and love for others will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lurie Cancer Center of Chicago would be appreciated.
