Mary P. Kirwan

KIRWAN, Mary Patricia (nee Hoey), passed away peacefully on her 93rd birthday surrounded by her family, and is now reunited with her beloved late husband, Joseph. Loving mother of Sarah Bernadette (Michael) Whelan and Ciaran (Teresa) who were the pride and joy of her life. Devoted grandmother of Michael, Peter, John, and Cecelia Whelan and Audrey, Ronan, and Hannah Kirwan. Loving daughter of the late Patrick and the late Sarah Hoey (nee Caulfield); dear sister of Brigid Meer (the late John), Sarah McCann (the late Michael), and Rosaleen Hoey, and the late John, the late James (Maura), the late Margaret “Peggy”, and the late Peter Hoey. Proud aunt of fourteen nieces and nephews and their families.

Mary was a proud native of Bavan, Omeath, Co. Louth, Ireland. She emigrated to Chicago in 1953, providing support to family at home and paving the way for four siblings to follow. As the matriarch of our Hoey family, Mary was the heart that kept everyone connected. Widowed early in her marriage, Mary provided unwavering support to raise her children and carried herself with strength, grace, and generosity. She was happiest spending time with family and friends, sharing stories and reminiscing about her beloved Ireland. Mary’s Catholic faith sustained her and was at the center of her life. May she rest in eternal peace.

A visitation will be held on Thursday April 9, 2026 from 4:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge IL. Funeral will be Friday April 10th, Mass at 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 320 S. Washington Ave, Park Ridge IL. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Misericordia or the St. Patrick Fathers appreciated.
