Obituary

Mary Ann Butzen (nee Londergan) passed away peacefully at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert G. Butzen, the cherished mother of Robert A. Butzen (the late Barbara), James Butzen (Melissa), Kevin Butzen (Denise), Mary Jo Proksa (John), and Michael Butzen (Julie), loving Grandmother of 15 and Great-Grandmother of 16.

Mary Ann was the youngest daughter of the late Alfred and Antoinette Londergan (nee Happel). Loving sister to the late Antoinette Kovie (nee Londergan) and the late Alfred (Buddy)Londergan, HA1C USNR KIA/IWO JIMA. Beloved Aunt, Sister-in-law, and friend to many.

Mary Ann was born in Louisville, KY where at the age of 3 her father passed so the family moved to Chicago where she was raised with the help of her aunts.

Mary Ann met Bob and married in 1950. They raised their 5 children in Rogers Park and were active with St. Ignatius Church and school.

Mary Ann was a devoted mother involving herself as a Cub Scout Leader, Brownie Leader, Girl Scout Leader, played guitar at the Sunday guitar masses and sang in the choir for many years. She also enjoyed a neighborhood bowling league with friends. Many of her most dear life-long friends raised their children alongside her.

Mary Ann worked at Loyola University and in retirement moved to Edison Park where she sang for many years in the St. Juliana Choir and the Northwest Choral Society.

She enjoyed family dinners and celebrating many milestones with the family. She was great at organizing family camping trips, vacations and fun days at the lake. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Ireland, Italy, Hawaii and other places. Mary Ann and Bob spent the winter in Arizona for decades to spend time with their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren who lived there. She will be deeply and forever missed.

Visitation will be held from 930 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on  Saturday, May 2, 2026 at St. Juliana Catholic Church, located at 7201 N. Oketo, Chicago with a mass to follow at 10:30 a.m.  A private inurnment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery Chicago.
