Julia Monaghan

Julia (Judy) Monaghan (nee Cawley), 75, passed away surrounded by her family on April 8, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Vincent Monaghan, the cherished mother of Megan Monaghan and Christine Monaghan (Darren Gaughan), and the devoted and much-loved grandmother of Cian and the late Jamie Gaughan. 

Judy was the youngest daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (nee McHugh)Cawley. She was the adored sister of Ellen (Francis) Carr, the late Hon. Thomas (Sheila) Cawley, the late Kathleen (Daniel) Renner, and the late Margaret (the late Michael) O’Hara. She was a beloved aunt, sister-in-law, and friend to many.

Judy grew up on the west side of Chicago and attended Our Lady Help of Christians, Siena High School, and Loyola University. She maintained a close-knit group of friends from those early years who still get together often to share memories and laughs.

Judy and Vince married in 1980, and settled in Edison Park, where Judy dedicated herself to raising her daughters after working in advertising. Her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother and spending her final years with Cian.

Judy will be remembered for her sense of humor and her love of a good Manhattan. She always had an open door for family and friends, and loved nothing more than spending time and celebrating milestones with her large family. Judy will be deeply and forever missed.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home, located at 625 Busse Hwy., Park Ridge, IL. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Juliana Catholic Church, located at 7201 N. Oketo, Chicago, IL. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
