Obituary

Judith A. Connolly (née Sirchio), age 84, of Chicago — and more recently, Park Ridge — passed away peacefully on October 6. Beloved wife of the late Peter Connolly. Cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Nancy Sirchio. Loving sister to LuAnn (Zenith) Akers and the late Bruce Sirchio. Treasured sister-in-law and dear friend to Jeanne Connolly and Pat Sirchio. Proud and devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews. Judy was a lifelong educator, dedicated to the belief that learning could change lives. She spent many years teaching in the Chicago Public Schools, where her passion for literacy, reading, and curiosity shone in every classroom she entered. Her commitment was recognized with the Rochelle Lee Teacher Award, and she remained deeply involved with Working in the Schools (WITS), mentoring and encouraging young readers long after retirement. Outside the classroom, Judy was endlessly curious — a lover of opera, theater, ideas, and conversation. Her mornings began with a run (yes, even in her later years!), followed by a walk and coffee with friends — a routine that speaks to her joyful energy and commitment to both health and community. She lived her life with grace, generosity, and an unshakable spirit. She listened with intent, laughed with delight, and showed up for others — always. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the incredible aides, nurses and staff at The Summit of Uptown, whose care, kindness, and compassion made a meaningful difference in Judy's final years. Your love and dignity were a gift. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Judy's honor may be made to WITS (Working in the Schools) at witschicago.org/support. Visitation will be held on Monday October 13 from 3-8 at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday October 14 at 11:30 at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 320 S Washington Ave, Park Ridge. Interment will follow on October 15 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 100 Cedar Grove Cottage, Notre Dame, IN. Judy's legacy is one of kindness, lifelong learning, and joyful purpose. She will be deeply missed — and remembered always.
