Joseph V. Murray (Joe), 88, of Chicago passed away on Thursday March 24, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Son of John and Myrtle Murray who preceded him in death along with his siblings James, Ruth, John, Jayne, Betty, Bernadette and Donald. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosella (nee Hannet) and sons Little Joe and John. Loving and devoted father, Joe is survived by 9 of his children Susan, Kathleen, Jayne, Patti Jo (Domnick), Michael (Cathy), Charlene, Mary Gersch Marchlewski (Andy, Frank), Timothy (Kelly) and James (Rita). Joe was the loving grandfather of 39 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and uncle to many nieces and nephews. For nearly four decades, Joe courageously served as a firefighter for the city of Chicago, fighting many fires and helping saving many lives. In 1958, he was one of the many firemen that fought the Our Lady of Angels fire where he also attended grade school. Over the years, he received several awards for his bravery and service. In 1991 he retired as Battalion Chief of Battalion No. 11 and worked and retired as a sheet metal worker Local 73. Joe was a devout member of Immaculate Conception Parish and attended mass daily. On October 17, 2013, Joe was honored as a 4th Degree Knight of St. Florian Council of the Knights of Columbus. Above all of these lifetime accomplishments, Joe's greatest joy was his family. With the love of his life Rosella, through 50 years of marriage, Joe built his enormous family and made their legacy. Joe's kindness, love and bravery have made an indelible imprint on the hearts and minds of countless many. Visitation Tuesday at Cooney Funeral Home 625 Busse Hwy. from 2 to 9 P.M..
