Sweeney, John Patrick, 71, of Chicago passed away suddenly on Monday, December 8, 2014 surrounded by his family.  Devoted husband of Barbara for 43 years; brother of James and Michael Sweeney; loving father of Margaret (Mario) Powell, James (Cruz), Rose, Robert, Anne (Peter Bowman), Eleanor (Jason Sofianos) and Grace; very proud grandfather of Paulina, Jack, John, Thalia, Maria Fernanda, June, Benjamin and recent arrival Joseph.  John was for over 40 years a successful real estate developer, civic leader and philanthropist.  Visitation Monday, December 15th  from 2 to 5 p.m. at Old Saint Patrick's Church, 700 W. Adams St., Chicago with funeral mass to be celebrated immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Mayan Health Initiative, NFP, c/o JPS Interests, 30 N. LaSalle St., Ste. 4100, Chicago 60602. Interment on Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Rosehill Cemetery.
