Dr. John Martin O'Malley, 75, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2023.
John was born on October 1, 1947 in Chicago, IL, to Anna and Patrick O'Malley. He was the youngest of seven children. John attended St. Vincent de Paul High School and went on to academic pursuits at Loyola University where he earned a Bachelor's degree and two Master's degrees. He later received a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Washington State University. He spent the majority of his career serving in administrative roles within colleges and universities, notably at Washington State University, University of Miami, Houston Community College, and Lone Star College. John had a profound desire to help children and served for many years in a volunteer capacity as a guardian ad litem, advocating for those with no other advocates.
John lived in many places including Chicago, IL; Pullman, WA; Miami, FL; Houston, TX; and most recently Loveland, OH. He was known to all as a wonderfully devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He never met a stranger, and was never short of stories to tell. His sense of humor was unparalleled, as was his deep faith. John was a devout Roman Catholic and served as a true and faithful servant from life until death, every day exemplifying a sincere and heartfelt love for Christ. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Anna, his father, Patrick, his sister, Mary, his brother Patrick, and his brother Edward. He is survived by his siblings, Nancy Caldieraro, Peggy Caldieraro, and Beatrice O'Shaughnessy, as well as by his five children, Anna (Tod) Geidl, Patrick (Colleen) O'Malley, Sean (Maria) O'Malley, Mary O'Malley, and Kathleen O'Malley.
