Obituary

John T. Nee passed away Tuesday, August 4,2026.

John was born on March 18, 1950, in the beautiful village of Turlough, Rosmuc, in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland, to the late Martin and Annie (Mannion) Nee. Raised among the green hills, John carried the warmth and spirit of Connemara with him everywhere he went. His journey took him from Ireland to England, and eventually across the Atlantic to America, where he made his home in Chicago.

He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Mary Wood, Coilín Nee, Patrick and wife Peggy Nee, and Joe Nee, as well as his brothers-in-law John Wood and Dr. Ellis Kendle. John is now reunited with them, and with his beloved parents, in eternal peace.

For over 40 years, John worked for CAS Construction Company, a career in line with his adventurous spirit. He traveled with the company for months at a time across the United States and took enormous pride in the skyscrapers and structures he helped build. But what he cherished most about the work was the people. He had a remarkable gift for striking up conversation and turned every new job site and city into an opportunity to make new friends.

Faith and family were the center of John’s world. He attended mass every week and went to many funerals in his community, spending time in thanks, remembrance and prayer. John enjoyed family reunions and celebrations in Ireland, England, and Canada, as well as Boston, Minnesota, and Florida. He had a heart of gold, and his greatest joy was spending time in Rosmuc, Ireland, with his mother. No matter the distance between them, he called Momó every week, a devotion that spoke volumes about the man he was.

John was a passionate and loyal fan of his beloved Chicago sports teams, cheering them on through every season. He also loved sharing his opinions on the politics of his great city. John’s energy and his stories were endless, and his company was always filled with laughter.

John was the much-loved brother of Ann Kendle, Bridget (Arlan) Dalager, Michael (Hanora) Nee, Kathleen (Wayne) Layden, Barbara (Richie) Sullivan, Nuala (John) Connor, and Angela (Noel) Coffey. He will be deeply missed by his special niece and godchild, Jill Dalager Brunner, along with his many loving nieces and nephews, relatives, and dear friends whose lives he touched with his generosity and warmth.

John will be forever missed and never forgotten.

May your beautiful soul find eternal rest. Slán Abhaile, John.
