John V. DeWerd: August 19, 1966 - January 25, 2021

On Monday, January 25th, John passed away suddenly after a prolonged illness resulting from a stroke. John graduated from Crookston High School, was an Eagle Scout and went on to get a degree from North Dakota State University. John moved to Chicago and worked as a graphic designer at Alphagraphics. John's interest in history and ancient Egypt led him to volunteer at the Field Museum and Oriental Institute. John was happiest on the weekends when he was at the Field Museum, where he was a docent for 15 years in the Inside Ancient Egypt gallery. John loved to share his knowledge: giving lectures, tours and mentoring others. He had a gift for inspiring young minds. John was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dianne (Greer) DeWerd and is survived by his sister, Julie and nephew, Levi.
