James J (Jim) Malone, age 94 passed away on January 25, 2021. A proud graduate of St Gregory Grade School, Quigley High School, he earned his bachelor's degree at Loyola University after honorable service in the United States Navy during WWII. He met the love of his life, Ann Hegarty, at a dance at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. They married in April 1951 and were blessed with twin daughters the following January. He worked at Standard Oil/Amoco/BP for many years while earning a master's degree from Loyola. Jim was a leader not just in his family but his community. He worked to start a fund to provide tuition support at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, was a leader in the St Vincent DePaul Society and was one of the original lectors at Mass. He and his beloved late wife Ann were Nicodemus ministers, brought Communion to the sick, and created and sponsored the popular Money Tree booth at countless parish fairs. More than anything he loved his family, first his parents (Michael and Nora Malone) and siblings the late Alice (Pat) Meehan, the late Margaret (Bill) Curtis, the late John (Lorraine) Malone, the late Patsy (Patrick) Gill, the late Katie O'Brien and his beloved brother-in-law Tom O'Brien. His children were the source of great joy Mary Rose, Barbara, Susan, Peggy, Michael (Patty), Marty (Lesley) and Ann Marie Kiolbasa (Jeff). His grandchildren were the source of great and lasting delight – Nell Malone, Claire Kiolbasa, Anna Tai Malone, Kelly Kiolbasa, Michaela Malone, Nicholas James Malone, Sophia Gauger Malone, Mallory Malone and Keaton James Malone. He was a loved member of his Hegarty family, including Patricia Sharp, the late Dick Sharp, Mary Francis Hegarty and the late Edward Hegarty. He was the beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He loved life, lived his faith, and was a man of kindness, charity and laughter. Now he and Ann are together forever with their daughter Barbara. A limited visitation will be held at Cooney Funeral Home located at 3918 W. Irving Park Rd. in Chicago on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with COVID restrictions in place.
