James E. “Jim” Doran passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on April 27, 2026 after an exhausting battle with dementia. Born on February 16, 1945 to the late Sylvester and Jeanette (Spears). He was preceded in death by his sister Kathryn (Jerry) Jany.
For 35 years, Jim was a forensic scientist for the Chicago Police Department. He was a very proud founding member of the Pipes and Drums of the Emerald Society for 20 years then a member of the Shannon Rovers for 25 years. Jim is survived by his cherished wife of 49 years Maureen (Daly) Doran, his beloved children James (Laura), Dr. Mary Kate (Nick) Peterson, and Patrick (CFD) (Kerry Brennan). Jim was the doting grandfather of Michael and Molly Peterson and Colin, Keira, and Conor Doran. He was the fun-loving brother-in-law of Greg (Diane) Daly, Eileen (Ralph Nyman), Pat (John Smith), John (Yvonne) Daly, Kathleen (John) McKenna, and Peggy (Jim) Fischer. He was a devoted uncle and great uncle to many. He was a loyal caregiver to his canine companions. Jim loved a good time, especially if it involved Irish music/bagpipes and family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 3:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge IL. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St.Paul of the Cross Church. 320 S. Washington Ave. Park Ridge IL. Interment Private, Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
