James "Jim" Butsback, 90, At rest Wednesday, August 31, 2016 surrounded by family; beloved husband of Margaret (nee Gorny); loving father of Mary Beth (Mike) Rooney, Jim (Mary Sue) and Ann (Kurt) Pusczan; dear grandfather of Melissa and Frank Butsback; Mary Pat (Calen Brennan) and Lauren Rooney; loving son of the late Marguerit and Walter Butsback and fond brother of the late Edward (Fran), Dorothy (Harry), Marjorie (Bob) and Donald; fond uncle/great-uncle and dear friend and mentor to many. Jim served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1952 as a corpsman assigned to the US Marines during WWII and at Camp Pendelton during Korea training other brave men to become corpsman. During his service Jim was awarded 3 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He met his loving wife of 63 years at DePaul University. He had a full life from riding bulls, working in racecar pits and enjoying his ever-present boats on Lake Michigan and in the Chain of Lakes. Jim was a two time Commander of the American Legion Tattler Post # 973 in Chicago holding the office 20 years apart. He also was a friendly smile and an interesting story or two at the Merle Guild Post #208 in Arlington Hts. A man before his time, he will be missed but never forgotten. Visitation at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy., Park Ridge on Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. Lying in State on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Alfonsus Liguori Church in Prospect Hts. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to DePaul University College of Commerce in memory of Jim Butsback '56 or Kindred Hospice would be appreciated.
