Gus Nick Kokonas, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2012. Loved by many and feared by those who unwittingly sat in his chair, Gus was affectionately known as "Pooh" among family and close friends. Those who knew him well (and even those who only met him briefly) will remember Gus for his warmth, generosity, way with words, and perhaps above all else, his charming sense of humor. Gus is the beloved husband of Edda (nee Koeth); loving father of Gus (Janie); devoted Papouli of Gus Peter (Julienne) and Eric (Leah Hawley); adored great-grandfather of Bella, Costandinos and Gwendolyn; dear brother of Christine and the late Helen Lemperis, the late Jim Kokonas and the late Kay Psyhogios, and brother-in-law to Steve Lemperis, Barbara Kokonas, Angelo Psyhogios and Karl-Heinz (Erika) Koeth; fond uncle to many nieces and nephews; and treat-giver to canine companion Camari. A 35-year employee of Pepsi Cola General Bottlers, Gus ascended to Operations Manager of the Service and Vending Department. Gus lived in Chicago for his entire life (when he wasn't "relaxing" at his Lake House in Hustisford, Wisconsin). He served in the Intelligence and Military Police with the 4th Infantry Division. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, December 8 from 9:00AM to 12Noon at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy., Park Ridge, IL 60068, where you may re-tell the stories he can no longer share. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society, 157 West Grand Ave., Chicago, IL 60654.
