Erin Elizabeth Ravelingeen (nee Halloran), age 46, of Chicago, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, March 30th after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Erin was the beloved wife and best friend of Nick; remarkable mother of Trudy and Mason; precious daughter of Bernie and Patty; treasured big sister of Steve and marvelous granddaughter of Patrick and the late Gertrude Halloran & the late Kathryn and Elmer Dodson; and doting dog mom to Dixie. She was a loyal daughter-in-law to Barb and Godfried and sister-in-law to Adrienne. Erin was a loving niece to Patsi and the late Dominick, John and Tracy, David and Laurie & Mary and Joe. She was a wonderful cousin of Derrick, Dominique, Joey, Patrick, Caitlin, and Justin; an adoring aunt of Nina, Autumn, Sophia, Isabelle and the late Alex. Erin is survived by many other extended family members and cherished friends.
She was a Chicago girl through and through – a devoted fan of the Cubs and Bears. No matter how many losing seasons, she always believed! Whether living in Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Square or Jefferson Park - this city was in her blood. The only things she loved more were family, friends, Tom Petty, Pearl Jam and Spotted Cow.
Erin was a unique force of positivity and a natural born leader. She was deeply involved and vital to the success of her children's school, being voted PTA president of Hitch Elementary multiple years running. That experience inspired her to go back to college after an extended absence. She joined the University Without Walls program – officially graduating in 2020 with a degree from Northeastern Illinois University.
At the time of her passing, Erin was enrolled in the master's program at NEIU focusing on Social and Mental Health Services. In accordance, she was granted an internship at Abbott House, a mental health rehabilitation facility. All the while, she orchestrated fundraising with Pastor Jacki at Eden United Church of Christ.
She had many big plans and dreams yet to accomplish, but they were cut short. Her ultimate goal was to make the world a better place than she found it, and in that, she fully succeeded and will always be remembered by those that knew her and love her.
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free
