Memmel, Elizabeth (Bette) M.: Born on September 4, 1922, passed away on February 16, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Aloysius. Mother of Terence (Cindy), Kevin (Toni) and Kathleen (Raymond) Azzi. Grandmother of Terence (Jennifer) Memmel, Jamie Hansen, Jessica (Ben) Reid, Jennifer Wurch, Jillian (William) Brown, Joseph, and Leo Azzi. Great Grandmother to Carter Memmel, Kyle and Kamryn Hansen, Marshall, and Ari Brown. Loving daughter of Lawrence and Marie Loeffler (deceased) of Swanton OH. Beloved sister and cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Bette was a World War II Veteran and earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant as an Army nurse. She began her service as a nurse cadet at Mercy Hospital in Toledo OH. She is a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Arlington VA. She was a member of Mel Tierney VFW Post 247 and in 2006 served as Grand Marshal in the Park Ridge Memorial Day parade.

She was a longtime employee of Grant Hospital (Chicago) where she worked as a Physical Therapist. She earned her degree in Public Health Nursing (BS) from Washington University – St Louis. She also earned a Physical Therapy License from the Medical College of Virginia.

She loved spending time with her family, tending to her garden, camping, traveling, dancing, ice skating and reading.

A Mass celebrating her 100 years of life is scheduled for Monday, April 24th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 320 S. Washington Ave., Park Ridge, IL. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to either St. Paul of the Cross (Park Ridge, IL) or the Military Women's Memorial at 703-533-1155.
