Elisabeth "Betty" Mateling (nee Braehler), age 68, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on May 13, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Theresa and Aloys Braehler, and her sister, Helen Braehler. Betty leaves behind her beloved husband, Ronald Mateling, and cherished daughters, Emily (Dan) Borkowski, Marisa (Robert) Peterson, and Ellen (Tim) Whalen.

Betty was affectionately known as "Ama" to her two grandsons, Justin and Jason Borkowski. She was an adored aunt, friend, cousin, and sister-in-law to many.

Betty was proud to serve as a registered nurse at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) for nearly 42 years. During her tenure at Shirley Ryan, Betty worked in many different roles that allowed her to make a positive impact on her patients as they navigated some of the most challenging injuries and illnesses of their lives. Betty most recently served as an Admission Liaison, and really enjoyed the relationships she formed with the patients and their families as she connected them with the best possible care.

Betty loved to garden, dance, read, cook, ski, and spend time with her family. Betty was close with many of her neighbors and was active in her close-knit community, where she served on the Edison Park Community Council and helped organize the Onarga Avenue block party for many years. Betty will be remembered for her beautiful and warm smile that brought sunshine to everyone's day.
