Edward Duffy (CFD, retired), 88, of Chicago, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2017. He was born on December 30, 1928 to Ellen Maloney and William Duffy in Cloughscoltia, Barna, County Galway, Ireland. He was the adored stepson of Mary Concannon Duffy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nora (Granahan) Duffy. He is survived by his nine loving children; Mary (Lynn) Kelly, William (Irene) Duffy (CFD), Eileen Judd, Kathleen Duffy, Noreen Duffy, Margaret (Nick) Ostojic, Ann Duffy, Rose (Edgar) Lim, and Erin (John) Carr. He was the cherished grandfather of Katherine, Jennifer (Justin), Michael, Terrence, Eamonn, Liam, Colm, Erin, Bridget, Caitlin, Nora, Patrick, Molly, Edward, Jose, and Evan. He was the dear brother of Kathleen Tarpey, Mary Grealy, Nora Walsh, the late Michael, Eileen and William Duffy. He was a loyal friend to many. He emigrated to the United States in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a captain on the Chicago Fire Department and retired after 34 years of service. He co-owned the popular Irish bar, Connolly's Tavern in Roger's Park. He was a 50-year member of Local 2.
