David Francis Cahill passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Dromulton, Currow, County Kerry, Ireland.

He grew up on a farm, raising prize-winning Ayrshire Cattle and Landrace Pigs. After a three year sojourn in Northern Ireland, he moved to Chicago in September, 1959. He arrived on Thursday and started work on Friday for People's Gas. He joined IUOE Local 399 in 1960 and attained the rank of Assistant Chief Engineer at Resurrection Hospital. A man of boundless energy, he labored for bricklayers and worked in the sewers. David worked his way up to start Cahill Builders, Inc. in 1972, building homes and apartment buildings across the Northwest Side and Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. A proud subject of Kingdom of Kerry, he followed Kerry football and rarely missed a match. A member of the National Greyhound Association since the early 1970's, he raced many fast greyhounds across the United States and Ireland, culminating with one of his dogs earning a spot on the 2021 All-American Team. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others whether in getting a new start in Chicago or campaigning for candidates for public office. Many considered him a second father. He was a quiet force of influence behind the scenes, moving with equal ease among Popes, Presidents, and the public alike. Tireless in his work and unwavering in his dedication, he chose impact over recognition, never seeking the spotlight.David is survived by his Wife of 60 years Bridget Cahill (nee Malone), His children, Bridget A. (Dennis) Hannum, Kathleen P. (Patrick J.) Leen, George P. (Moira) Cahill, Grandchildren: Patrick Martin Leen, Kaitlin Leen, Bridget Leen, Brendan Leen and Francesca Cahill. Sibilings: Josephine Crawley (deceased) and Mary B Cahill. David was preceded in death by his parents George and Bridget Cahill.
