Catherine Butler (O'Neill) passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022 at the age of 84 as family members were by her side. Catherine was born in 1938 in Woodlawn, Galway, Ireland. She immigrated to Chicago in 1959, where she met her husband Martin and lovingly raised a family of five children. Catherine was devoted to her Catholic faith and her family.  She loved getting together with her family and friends. She always welcomed them to her home where a good party could be had. She also loved Irish dances/music and traveling, especially to Ireland. Catherine's Irish brogue and wonderful sense of humor endeared her all the more to everyone she met. She would often play tricks on loved ones such as hiding something and then always have a big laugh when she presented it moments later. She will be missed dearly. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Martin Butler; parents Patrick O'Neill and Margaret O'Neill (Connor); siblings Paddy, Eileen, Mary, Michael, Rita, Josephine. She is survived by her daughters, Mary (David) and Margaret (Elliott); sons Michael (Ghada), Patrick (Nicole) and Sean (Barbara); granddaughters Katie, Briana, Amelie, Fiona, Kyla, and Molly; grandsons Michael, Patrick, Raiden and Martin. Visitation at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy., Park Ridge on Tuesday from 3p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to Misericordia Home, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660.
