August P (Gus) Malatia, age 86, of Chicago Illinois died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Loving husband of Carol (nee Korneck); dear brother of Josephine (Duke) Wilkins; caring brother-in-law, uncle, godfather, nephew, and cousin. He was a devoted, lifelong friend to many including his army buddies, Chi Gents brothers and firemen co-workers, especially those at Firehouse Single-Engine 68. Gus was a veteran of the US Army who upon discharge joined the Chicago Fire Department and served for over 38 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Theresa Malatia. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy. in Park Ridge. Funeral Saturday, prayers at 9:30 a.m. going to St. Paul of the Cross Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
