Anthony "Tony" Janda--Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Sullivan); loving father of Timothy (Whitney), Meghan (Joseph Glascott) and the late Tony, 10/18/2012 (Gaelin); dear brother of Mary (Thomas Finan); proud and cherished grandfather of Charlotte and Finnegan Glascott. Tony was born in Chicago, IL in 1947 to the late George and Margaret Janda. He passed away on Monday, October 17th in his home surrounded by family. He will be greatly missed by many family members, an abundance of fond friends and of course his dog Masie.
Tony pioneered the technique of sandblasting wooden signs in the Midwest after studying the process in southern California in the late 1960's. As a self taught woodworker, he influenced the design of taverns, restaurants and small businesses for decades on Chicago's northside offering multidimensional, hand carved and gilded signs. He founded The Wooden Sign Company in 1972 and this year marks their 50th anniversary in business. Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23rd from 12:00pm-4:00pm with a prayer service at 4:00pm at Cooney Funeral Home located at 625 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge, IL.
