Anthony David Butera (aka David Lee Samples Jr.), 55, passed unexpectedly on November 26th, 2025. Treasured husband of Carrie Butera, loving father of Emily and Elise Butera, and admired by future son-in-law Mihai Beca. Son-in-law of Nancy (Thomas) Wolf and the late John M. Butera. Brother-in-law of John C. Butera. Son of the late Teana D. Davis (nee Garner). Nephew of Len Garner, cousin of Tristan Garner. Friend of many. Anthony was a dedicated employee of Pentwater Capital Management, and previously, Magnetar Capital and Citadel. He was proud to contribute to the workforce in his role in Information Technology and cherished all the friends and connections he made along the way. No matter how great the challenge, solving problems was his passion, and he deeply enjoyed being able to share his vast knowledge with those around him. There is nothing in this world that he enjoyed more than being surrounded by his wife and children. He was an amazing chef, movie connoisseur, and handyman. He enjoyed nothing more than to smoke a brisket for hours on end, or to go on long motorcycle rides through the woods. Anthony was a proud Italian with a perfectly groomed beard, a macho man, and above all, a loyal protector and provider. Contrary to his tough exterior and large frame, he was a kind-hearted and caring man, who had extraordinary tenderness for his wife, daughters, and dogs. He was the sort of man who played on floor with his daughters, and always proudly wore his wedding ring. He was a hugger, who always gave big bear hugs that were maybe a touch too tight, but we loved them just the same. A perpetual optimist, he lived by the motto "everything will be fine". Although he will be sorely missed, his girls will do their very best to channel his ever-present strength, carry on, and continue to make him proud. Memorial at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy.
